Mayor Dabbs Appoints New Bryant Parks Committee Members
The application period has closed, and Mayor Jill Dabbs has selected replacements for the four outgoing Bryant Parks and Recreation Committee Members. These new appointments will be formally acknowledged again during the upcoming State of the City address on Tuesday, February 27th. The following positions were filled:
Ward 2 Position 1- RJ Hawk
RJ Hawk’s goal as a parks committee member is to bring a sense of awareness to Bryant parks. Currently an on-air producer for 103.7 The Buzz, RJ is bringing marketing experience as well as a background in construction to the parks committee. RJ is looking forward to helping Bryant parks stand out as some of the best in the state through updating and expanding existing facilities. RJ considers serving on the parks committee to be an investment in our children and community. RJ will prioritize keeping the parks updated, providing interesting programs for Bryant residents, and building avenues for funding that will allow the parks to grow.
Ward 2 Position 2- Karla Epinnette
Karla Epinnette has lived in Bryant for almost 4 years and is looking forward to engaging in the Bryant community as a part of the parks committee. Karla’s experience with organized fundraising and events, leadership training, and passion for community service will be invaluable to the community in this role. Karla hopes to help the committee continue to provide safe and clean areas for families to enjoy. Karla is excited to be more involved in the community and contribute to the improvement of Bryant current parks. As a part of the committee, Karla is committed to continuing improvements and park maintenance.
Ward 3 Position 1 - Jay Lasey
Jay Lasey is a longtime Bryant resident and supporter of our local park system. While his full time job is a Design Engineer in Little Rock, he has remained actively engaged here in his local community. Jay is a founding member of the Mills Park Skills Park and Trail System and is a Central Arkansas Trail Alliance Member. His vision for the Bryant Parks System includes park quality improvements such as common branding for all signage and clean, equally maintained park features throughout the entire system. Jay’s desire to see the revitalization of Bryant’s existing park infrastructure inspired him to serve on the committee.
Ward 3 Position 2- Andrea Hooten
Andrea Hooten has been passionate about serving our community since she and her family moved to Bryant in 2011. Andrea has been working for the UAMS' Department of Family and Preventive Medicine for 5 years and is acutely aware of the important role outdoor activities and exercise play in a healthy routine. Andrea feels that clean and up-to-date facilities and planned updates and upgrades are crucial for Bryant parks. She would also like to see sufficient and continuous biking trails throughout the city. Andrea was involved in the millage community engagement subcommittee 2017 for Bryant Schools and served on the PTO board for BMS for 6 years.
“I am excited to see the projects and involvement of our parks committee in this upcoming year”, stated Mayor Jill Dabbs. “Committed volunteers are the backbone of a strong community and our committee and commission members are model examples of that dedication”.
