City of Bryant, Saline County, Arkansas
Office (501) 943-0999
From the Desk of Mayor Jill Dabbs
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 12th, 2018
The City of Bryant Stormwater Department is used to being “in over their heads” so to speak, but thanks to a good plan and a dedicated department significant progress is being made toward improving the stormwater issues of the past.
Mayor Dabbs along with Stormwater Ed announced today that a State Matching Grant through the Office of Emergency Management was awarded to the City of Bryant for the Stoneybrook subdivision. Addressing Bryant’s stormwater issues has been a priority for the citizens and the administration for many years. In 2012 when Mayor Dabbs established the Bryant stormwater department, and the first stormwater ordinance was passed by the Bryant City Council, a priority list of projects was created. The goal then and now is to address our most pressing issues, as quickly as possible, as funding and resources become available.
Since 2016, the city has completed over 14 separate stormwater projects with more currently in the engineering and planning stages. These projects vary in scope and size with focus being given to areas that we could affect immediately with available funding.
In addition to public project work, Stormwater manager Ben Wilson focuses a lot of his department's efforts on education and enforcement of private property stormwater management. Residents keeping their ditches cleared of debri, proper placement of fences and visual inspection of drainage areas can make a huge impact on how stormwater flows throughout a neighborhood. Mayor Dabbs insists “It is all of our responsibility to do all we can to protect our own properties as well as our neighbors.”
Mayor Dabbs stated “I am proud of all the work that has been completed for the continuing improvement of our stormwater system but there is more to be done. We are committed to addressing every stormwater issue until there are no more. Protecting our property values is protecting our city and ensuring positive development for the future.”
